Un senso di fatica cronica affligge moltissimi malati durante e dopo le terapie. Stare a riposo però peggiora la situazione
MILANO – L’esercizio aerobico può contribuire ad alleviare la fatigue, quel senso di stanchezza o affaticamento cronico di cui soffrono molte persone curate per un tumore. A ribadire efficacia e utilità di praticare regolarmente attività fisica è uno studio dei ricercatori della Cochrane Library che hanno valutato i dati contenuti in ben 56 ricerche differenti e relativi a oltre 4mila pazienti oncologici. La fatigue è un complesso di sintomi che porta a una riduzione dell’energia fisica, delle capacità mentali e ha riflessi anche sullo stato psicologico. Interessa fino al 90 per cento dei malati, soprattutto durante la chemioterapia, ed è una condizione legata al tumore, ma anche un effetto collaterale di diverse terapie anticancro che può durare a lungo nel tempo (mesi o persino anni).
È UNA MALATTIA – Secondo le stime sono circa 300mila gli italiani che soffrono della sindrome da stanchezza cronica, anche se ancora in tanti a non considerarla una vera e propria malattia, per cui troppi si rassegnano a conviverci o stanno costantemente a riposo (peggiorando la situazione), ignorando che il movimento (insieme a una «giusta dose» di cibo e sonno) contribuisce a vivere meglio. «In passato – spiegano i ricercatori Cochrane – chi soffriva di fatigue veniva invitato a riposare, ma l’indicazione si è dimostrata dannosa perché lunghi periodi di inattività possono portare ad atrofia muscolare e possono aumentare la stanchezza. Mentre alternare riposo e attività fisica può contribuire a ridurre il disturbo».
SFORZO FISICO – Nello specifico a rivelarsi efficace è stato l’esercizio aerobico, ovvero uno sforzo fisico (anche modesto) prolungato per più di venti minuti circa, e in particolare quello compiuto durante una camminata o una passeggiata in bicicletta. «Muoversi aiuta ad alleviare la fatigue sia durante che dopo i trattamenti oncologici e questo è un punto cruciale perché chi ne soffre non solo vede limitata la propria qualità di vita, ma può anche essere meno incline a continuare le terapie antitumorali» concludono i ricercatori.
